MessageSujet: Kerran Fury in Everquest 2   Lun 16 Jan - 12:12

I guys,

I'm ready for a new project after my first try on Telemaque cheers
It will be my project and i will try to made all the work alone (sculpt & paint).

It's a specific project because i want to make a video game statue.
It's my caracter on Everquest 2 MMO game. you will find information about his MMO here http://www.everquest2.com/
My caracter is a kerran : a humain-tiger man.
It's look like that

I will make a 1/6e scale statue in museum pose. Kerran are a little highter than humain then i think that the hight will be 30-35 cm.
I will start to make the body without cloth and armor. After this and warm it, i will make armor, clothes, weapons and other specifiec details.

I started the head yesterday. 2h of work for the moment.
I have made the global form.
Find below 2 picture of the head

It's an interesting experience. Don't hesitate to give me your comments.
Thanks ein advance

Oh yea, that's a great project, I love this kind of Manimals!

You should observe more your Kerran's head, you have modeling too fast. Observing is the most important part in sculpting (or any other arts).
Look at this rough:

You see the diffrence is big in fact. You have not medling the head of Kerran, you have medling the head of a cat like.
When we start on medeling, we have to make the effort not to think with global idea, you must be thinking with particular identification, because you want you figure to be unique, representing your character that has a uniuqe identity. ANd Kerran doesn't have a general feline face. This is like human faces, we all have nose, lips, ears, but if you want to make a portrait of your friend, you will not just have to sculpt a general nose, general ears, general lips.

So, follow Kerran and have a look on what observing his face is telling us:

Use marble (bille) for the eyes.

And you can modeling step by step, level by level using the tecnics shown in this excelent workshop video from Spiderzero http://video.sina.com.cn/v/b/44044221-1744879490.html
where you can see the technics, how to rise your figure, level by level. ANd tou can adapt this on the Karran's head.

But I encourage you to sculpt in hard after making a rough modeling, with some apoxie sculpt.
I know taht pro use fresh stuff, but they are pro, and when you are a newby like me, sculpting is a good way to reach a good level.
Modeling on fresh stuff is to often a way to have a flabby figure. Sculpting will give you good shape and strong expressions!
And you can use the work of Azuma Takashi that we have seen on FG a few days ago! http://www.otakujanaika.com/t208-azuma-takashi-report
(if your not registered on FG you have to do it, it's realy easy! Ask to Edelstein, she was thinking it was not that easy, but she changed her mind! Wink )

Good luck Krich!! ANd go further!!!!!!

Thanks a lot Sleep cheers That's fantastic information and i will learn many things with your comments study
Waaou the video is so long. It will be difficicult to see it at my office. I will see it at home Laughing

I'm afraid that if i used Aves it will be difficult to modify things if there are mistake. I have warn the center of the head to have a solid base for the moment and i try to add sculptey after. I will see if it work again and if it's too difficult, i will try with Aves.

I will try to restart the head. I'm no hurry and i want to show a perfect work at the end.
I will post picture of my WIP, we will tell me if i'm good or not.

You have the exclusivity of this WIP and pictures. YOu must be so good lol!

Thanks again. I will try to do my best.

Oh that's so nice of you , thanks a lot, we realy apreciate that! flower

Sorry for the video, I forgot to tell you where it is imporant for your wip!^^' Go on 0:46:00

And with bi-components ( like apoxie sculpt) you can always modifiy your figure with cuting and sculpting, this is infinite!
So don't worry about "it will be difficult to modify things if there are mistake", this is realy easy.
And the texture of the aves is resly great, very fine! (look at my Irane's wip!)

(for the eyes if you don't have marbles, you can always do marbles with paste and making it hard.)

Citation :

I will try to restart the head. I'm no hurry and i want to show a perfect work at the end.
That's an excellent behaviour! this is the only way to improve yourself.
Looking for perfection is the only way not to loose your time and exploring great levels :
You will acquire satisfaction and pleasure!

I'm back after some work yesterday on my head.

I have take better pictures of my caracters in game. I have modify all the head with sculptey.
I know that you will beat me Razz but i prefere to learn sculpting with sculptey. It will hardest but i like this resin. It's not important for me to start again and again the sculpting. My purpose is to master this resin and made a perfect result at the end.

Follow comparative picture betwen sculpting and picture

There are a lot of différence for the moment. I think it's better than yesterday but not good.
There are différence with nose, hears, cheekbones but general aspect is more like.

What do you think about it ?
say what you think and you can make picture of you want.

I will let this head some day to reflect and come back with a fresh eye. Your comments will help me.
Thanks in advance

Oh Sculpey is good too, and every one is using it so that can't be bad!:P

But there's something else that cause me troubles: How can it be the same character?

In all evidence this is not the same sprite and the second one that you show us this day has been made by trainee...
With 3D pictures you must have to be carrefull of what you see, because very often the 3D modelers has to put right with textures
to hide the bad modelisation, and with this one this is efficiently the case.
I don't know how you feel your Kerran, but if you want him inspiring respect and fear, the first one is better!
When we do sculpting or modeling, we should beginning projects thinking with abstractiv forms, not to much details, because if the global shape is good, details will comes easier.
And wy do you do this vertical line on his brow? It's realy weird!^^'

Thanks for your answer.

I don't understand too why there are these differences. The 1st picture (yesterday) was taken in game in the world. The 2nd picture (today) was taken in character selection on start on game. I have made zoom and move character to have each side.
That so strange scratch
I think that in game, the character had an interact xith environment. Maybe i had click on a item and my caracter look it and that why the head is différent as today where he is "normal"... maybe....

I prefere the 2nd (today) because it look like more happy than the previous. My character is a druid and he help other people. He like nature and heal. He is a good man (i know that you prefere necromancian Razz ).

I have made vertical ligne to give me a symetric sign to do symetric sculpture (as possible). it will disappear after.

I will take your black lines on the second to help me, thanks a lot.

This is not the same modelisation, there's one for the profile with high resolution and one for the game
that has been made by two different modelers with two different 3D frames.
Dealing with so much details to create your own avatar can be done by only one modeler, and most of the time gamers don't see the difference.
In fact I prefer the first one because it looks like a humantiger, to me the second one looks like a cuddly toy (peluche). ^^'

Gandalf is a druide and he can inspire fear!

Rhaaaaa you are hard in affair

YOu are right, the 1st is more human... but the second is more healer
Since the beginning, i refered to the 2n picture for the head.
I doubt even if the first seems angry and harder to sculpt, it provides a great challenge and a character a little aggressive. The 2nd will be more easy to do but....

I will make reflexion this 2 days and i will make my decision.
My night will be no good

Yes I prefer the first one because he is more expressiv, but if this is the second
that express what you know about Karran (I think I began to understand what you mean)
this will be great too! Basketball
I will draw something better, the last one has been made in 5 seconds, and it has to be made seriously! drunken

Thanks for you attention and help.
I will make the 2nd face but i will add details to make him more expressive.
We will see that during the sculpt Razz

Sleep, to add information, Kerran are a neutral race and there are good and lives in oasis. They are good warrior particulary in natural magic spells.
Mine is a Duid Fury, a healer with powerfull spell of fire and lightning but they are used in groupe for heal every one.
If someone want to show the world of Everquest 2, you can go here http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
It's a well scenaristic game and with no end... that's the problems with that lol!

I will work on it this week.
In the same time i will advance my Batman 1/4 kit Razz

I'm back... after 4 grippe in family and snow i can work now...

FOr my Kerran, i'have decided to make a "generic" face. In fact, many people who play this game are interesting to have there caracters in resin. I have decided to make a general base of Kerran statue with no Cloth or armor or specif detail. I will cast it and after i will add detail and armor specificly for each characters...
After maybe i will make other race....

Then i have modify the face to give it a more human aspect with Tiger details...
PLease find below modifications.

I will decided to modify some things like that

Are you ok with my work and modify i will make ?
After i will make fur but i I have to think about the technical (brush, tooth brush, scalpel... ?)

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Excellent choice of character ! I really like that kind of characters Twisted Evil

Great start but before texturing, I would recommend to continue to refine again and again the face, step by step, don't be too impatient Wink

Can't wait to see more !

Thanks guys.

Thanks a lot sleep for your pictures.
But I have to think as if I have to enlarge the still face, I lost my 1/6th scale.
It's a difficult choice or I must redefined all the face to preserve my 1/6e scale....

Rhaaaaa I'm going to think about it in my cave Razz

That exactly the kind of problems that you have to deal with when sculpting, and you must be very vigilant with scale,
that's why you must never gon on details before cheking on the global shape of the head!!
And I know this is difficult to d othis, but this is the only way to porgress: Erase and try again! (I'm not kiding, and I know what it means, I've done this more than fifteen times with the Irane's head so as to get the perfect result that I need! And I can tell you that now I can do Irane's head!)

MessageSujet: Re: Kerran Fury in Everquest 2   Mar 14 Fév - 11:11

I'm back.
After a short interlude of painting (commission nearly finished, picture asap), i have modify my head.

I have preserve the eyes, nose and mouth because i love them. I have modify all the rest of the head to make him a more humain aspect.
I raise the cheeks. I add material on the head to enlarge the front. I have reform the head behind and remove sculptey.
I have modify a little the ears. I like them like that but it not the same in the game. I must think if i preserve them because i love them or if i must respect totally the game.
There are symetric problem again but i will modify them after your validation.
I will refine the chin i think.

I want to make a unique sculpture that i will love more with no constraints. I know that i have choose to make my game character but with time and work, i prefere to make a character i like more and let my feeling do but i will preserve the game information about race and character.

For me, now i like it and i would like to preseve that face. I will just make little modification and details but the sculpture is good and i think it's looks like a Kerrian , no ?
